Elliott's Legacy

I'm Shelley, a trauma therapist with more than 20 years of experience. I’m also an auntie to a beautiful boy named Elliott who was born sleeping in 2023. To honour his memory, I founded ‘Elliott's Legacy’ – a mental health initiative embedded within my business that aims to support those affected by baby loss.

Through Elliott’s Legacy, I hope grieving parents will find comfort in the compassion of a stranger who understands the depths of their pain, lightening their burden and bringing them closer to healing and recovery.

Elliott's Story

On March 2 2023, our family experienced a heart-wrenching tragedy. My nephew, Elliott, was born into our lives, but his arrival was marked by silence. An incredibly rare blood clot in his umbilical cord cut off his oxygen and resulted in his death.

This painful loss left us all in profound grief. Elliott's parents, my sister Jo and her husband Craig, were shattered by the experience. Elliott’s older siblings, Lily and Jack, had eagerly anticipated the arrival of their sweet baby brother, only to be met with the inexplicable emptiness of losing him before they could even get to know him.

The grief and pain were immense, and our family was left searching for a way to find meaning amid this devastating loss.

For us, it’s important to remember just how beautiful and perfect our precious Elliott was. He had the most striking dark hair, like a midnight sky sprinkled with stardust. His big feet were a testament to the strength he possessed, even in his tiny delicate form. And that squishy little nose, a tiny masterpiece of nature's design, held the promise of countless Eskimo kisses we'll never get to share. His perfection left an indelible mark on our hearts, reminding us that love transcends time and space.

Since losing Elliott, our family has clung to the simplest moments of solace – a white feather caught in the breeze, a rainbow after a storm, or the comfort found in looking at pictures of his tiny hands. In these everyday occurrences, I feel Elliott's spirit, and it reminds me he will never truly be gone. He will live on in our hearts and memories as we begin to grow around our grief.

Baby Loss Therapy and Support Through Elliott's Legacy

In honour of my beloved nephew, whose memory we hold so close, I, with the agreement of Jo and Craig, have decided to give back. In his name, I'm dedicated to providing therapy free of charge for those who have experienced the profound pain of stillbirth or neonatal loss.

Through this, I aim to transform our grief into an opportunity for others to find strength and hope, carrying my nephew's beautiful spirit forward in a meaningful, healing way. By creating a haven of safety where individuals can share their grief, find solace, and begin their therapy journey, we honour Elliott's legacy and extend a lifeline to those who share this pain.

The decision to offer these sessions was not taken lightly. I recognise that coping with such a profound loss requires more than just the passage of time – it demands a safe space to process the trauma, grief, and emotions. This is what I hope to provide for grieving parents, supporting them on the challenging path of emotional exploration and learning.
